Heat, Cold and Rain: Changing Plans with a Pet

When the Korea Meteorological Administration publishes a heat, cold, heavy-rain, or typhoon warning, change the outing before you leave. Those warnings are human forecast tests. They are not a diagnosis, not a treatment, and not a body-temperature cutoff for a dog or a cat. This page only says what to do with the plan.

Read the warning, then edit the day

The criteria sit on the KMA special-weather standards page. Check the warning for the district you will be in, not the city you slept in. A warning can cover one coast and skip the next valley. If the animal already seems unwell, stop using this page and open the emergency guide. That page is about reaching a clinic. This one does not add symptoms or care steps.

A hot hour is not yet a warning

You can still shorten a walk because the pavement feels hot, without any warning in force. That is a judgment about today’s route. It is not the KMA test, and it does not become a warning because a phone shows 30°C. A warning is the published line for that district. A Seoul warning does not edit a valley in another province. Open the district you will stand in.

The same standards page lists a tropical-night advisory beside the heat rows. It ties that advisory to the heat feels-like test and to a nighttime low that the administrator sets by region. This page does not invent that nighttime number. If a tropical-night advisory is up for your district, treat the evening walk the way you treat the midday one: shorter, or moved. It is still a human forecast.

The edit itself stays small. Swap a midday beach for an earlier loop, drop the middle stop, or keep the animal at the room if the replacement seat is not confirmed. Do not build a new city itinerary to “use” the warning. The warning’s job is to remove the exposed piece.

Heat: move the outdoor piece

On the standards page, a heat advisory includes a daily maximum feels-like temperature of 33°C or higher expected to last at least two days. A heat warning uses 35°C on the same kind of test. Feels-like temperature is not the same number as the air temperature on a phone widget. There is also a severe step above those lines. Read the full row before you treat one hot hour as a warning.

The planning response is ordinary and narrow. Shorten the time on sand, asphalt, and unshaded trails. Move the walk to a cooler part of the day, or replace it with a short street loop near the room. Do not treat 33°C as a medical line for the animal. It is the human advisory test. A beach day in Busan is the sort of plan this warning edits, which is why the Busan guide sends you here instead of repeating the numbers.

Carry water for the walk you kept, not a kit of cooling products. What belongs in the bag is the day-bag guide. What does not belong on this page is a dose, a drug name, or a first-aid sequence.

Cold: the warning is not every chilly morning

Cold-wave criteria on that page apply from October through April. One advisory test is a morning low of −12°C or below expected for at least two days. The warning test uses −15°C. A separate test looks at a sharp drop from the day before, down to 3°C or below and below the climate normal. A single cold morning is not automatically a warning. Open the page and match the test.

If a cold-wave advisory or warning is up, cut the still, exposed time. A wet coat plus a long wait for a bus is a worse plan than a shorter loop and a ride you have already checked. This is a schedule change. It is not instructions for warming an animal, and it is not a clothing recommendation.

Rain and typhoon: drop the exposed route

The same standards page publishes heavy-rain and typhoon warnings, with their own rainfall, wind, and wave tests. Use the warning as a reason to leave the beach, the ridge, and the uncovered park off the day. Korea’s summer rainy season makes this a repeating choice, not a surprise, but a season is not itself a warning. The warning for that district is the edit.

The replacement plan has to be real. An indoor seat exists only if that business will take the animal, which is the cafe and restaurant guide. A ride exists only if that operator takes the animal. Do not invent a dry backup that you have not checked. If the weekend was built around one outdoor valley, the weekend guide is where that whole trip should have been optional.

The warning is the edit

Match the district to the KMA page. Heat moves or shortens the outdoor piece. Cold shortens the exposed wait. Rain and typhoon warnings take the open route off the day. None of those numbers is a veterinary instruction. If the animal is unwell, use the emergency guide and leave this page.
